DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — A spokesman for a fugitive American businessman fighting fiscal corruption charges in Dubai says he has been returned to the United Arab Emirates after fleeing to Yemen.

Businessman Zack Shahin was detained by Yemeni authorities last month as he sought American diplomatic assistance to travel onward to the U.S.

Shahin was released from a Dubai jail in July after posting a $1.4 million bail. He had been awaiting trial for more than four years on charges of financial improprieties as executive of a Dubai-based development company. He denies any wrongdoing.

Spokesman Darren Spinck says Yemeni authorities put Shahin on a plane Saturday to be returned to the UAE. No other details were available.
