The military conducted three dozen airstrikes on targets in Yemen last year, U.S. Central Command confirmed Monday.

CENTCOM issued a news release that provided details about the 36 strikes against al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) and ISIS-Yemen.

January saw the most activity, with 10 strikes conducted against both terror groups. That was followed by six strikes against AQAP the following month, seven in March and four in April.

The year's remaining airstrikes were all against AQAP, with two occurring in May, June, July, and September, and one in August.

October, November, and December did not see any airstrikes.

The U.S. opened 2019 with an airstrike in Yemen that targeted Jamal al-Badawi, one of the plotters of the 2000 attack on the USS Cole guided-missile destroyer. Al-Badawi was killed in the strike.

The Cole was docked in Yemen's Aden harbor at the time of the attack, which occurred Oct. 12, 2000. A small boat loaded with explosives and piloted by two suicide bombers exploded next to the Cole, resulting in the death of 17 U.S. sailors. Thirty-nine others were injured.
