President Donald Trump saved the United States from going to war with North Korea, he admitted Wednesday.
Speaking with reporters during a press conference at the United Nations that stretched for well over an hour, Trump addressed the latest regarding North Korea and the relationship he has forged with its leader Kim Jong Un.
"We have a very good relationship. Very different from the last time I was at the United Nations. That was a little rough," Trump said, alluding to his UN speech last year in which he called Kim "Little Rocket Man."
"That time, they said, 'Trump is saying these horrible things. He's going to get us into a war. You're going to have a war.' If I wasn't elected, you would be in a war and President Obama essentially said the same thing. He was ready to go to war. If I wasn't elected, you would have had a war."
Trump and Kim met in Singapore in June to discuss the denuclearization of North Korea. Progress continues to be made, as Kim and South Korean President Moon Jae-in have met multiple times.
