Syrian Activists: Hospital Bombed in Daraa Province

Sunday, 31 July 2016 10:08 AM EDT

BEIRUT (AP) — Syrian activists say a hospital in the southern province of Daraa has been damaged in an airstrike and put out of service.

The Local Coordination Committees activist network says an airstrike Sunday targeted the hospital in Jasem, an opposition town some 35 miles (57 kilometers) south of Damascus. The group says six people were killed in the airstrikes in Jasem, blaming them on government fighter jets.

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitoring group says the hospital strike killed a pharmacist and put the facility out of service.

Hospitals are regularly targeted in Syria's war, drawing condemnation from the U.N. and the international community. The New York-based Physicians for Human Rights says over 90 percent of attacks on medical facilities in Syria were carried out by pro-government forces.
