TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Iran's top leader has warned that renewal of a decades-old sanction on his country will lead to reaction by Tehran.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's website quoted him as saying on Wednesday, "Definitely, the Islamic republic of Iran will show reaction" about the renewal. He didn't elaborate.

Khamenei, who has final say on all state matters, said the renewal is a violation of a landmark nuclear deal with world powers that capped Iran's nuclear activities in return for lifting sanctions.

Khamenei, who supported the deal, said the U.S. has violated the deal by "various violations" so far.

Last week, the U.S. House renewed the Iran Sanctions Extensions, first passed by Congress in 1996 and which expired at the end of the year. There is widespread support in the Senate for approving it.
