Kim Jong-un's weight has ballooned about 90 pounds since assuming power in North Korea, and reportedly suffers from insomnia and "binge eating and drinking" to cope with fears of being assassinated, according to South Korea's spy agency.
Kim weighed 198 pounds in 2012, and is now believed to weigh about 286 pounds, according to Lee Cheol-uoo, a South Korean ruling party lawmaker, citing information given to him and other lawmakers during a meeting with the National Intelligence Service,
United Press International reports.
"He keeps a close tab on any potential threats to his power, including the military, and he is obsessed with ensuring his personal safety," Lee said,
the Guardian reports.
"Because of his habitual binge eating and drinking, he is likely to develop adult [lifestyle] diseases."
Speculation about Kim's health first arose in late 2014 after he disappeared from view public view for three weeks, and was seen earlier in the year limping during a factory inspection, fueling rumors of his suffering from gout or diabetes.
Last month, he was photographed with a cigarette during a visit to a children's camp, the Guardian reports.
