Hong Kong International Airport is testing technology that could protect travelers from getting sick — or infecting someone else.

The airport claims it's the first in the world to test a live operation of CLeanTech, a full-body disinfection booth, CNN reported.

The process involves a temperature check before a passenger walks into a small booth for 40-second disinfection and sanitizing procedures.

CNN reported the inside of the facility contains an antimicrobial coating that can remotely kill any viruses and/or bacteria found on clothing, as well as the body, by using photocatalyst advances along with "nano needles."

Along with CLeanTech, the airport authority is also testing an invisible antimicrobial coating that kills germs, bacteria, and viruses on handles, seats, kiosks, check-in counters, baggage trolleys, and elevator buttons at the airport.

Autonomous cleaning robots are also being used to continuously disinfect public areas and passenger facilities, CNN reported.
