Radical islamists in Libya are bulldozing tombs and blowing up shrines, hell-bent on forcing adherence to a stricter form of Islam – one that does not recognize saints or allow the slightest encroachments of modernity. It wouldn’t be much to worry about if it weren’t for the fact that the Muslim Brotherhood is moving into this vacuum and building a power base here. If the Muslim Brotherhood is able to get control of Libya after taking power in Egypt, the Arab world’s most populous country, U.S. policy in the Middle East will have been set back many decades, and a new war in the middle east could be in the offing.
