Rights Group: 2 Aid Workers Kidnapped in Eastern Congo

KINSHASA, Congo (AP) — A Congo-based organization says two humanitarian workers have been kidnapped in Congo's eastern North Kivu province.

The Center of Study for the Promotion of Peace, Democracy and Human Rights said four people with international aid organization Solidarite Internationale were stopped by armed men in Timbo-Timbo while traveling.

It said the armed men forced them into the bush and abandoned the vehicles on the road. The attackers then released two hostages.

The rights group, which tracks rebel violence in Congo, says the two are being treated at the Luofu health center.

The group condemned the kidnapping and urged the military to find the victims, and secure the roads.

Three international Red Cross employees were abducted in eastern Congo at the beginning of May.

Multiple armed groups are active in the region.
