ATHENS, Greece — Judges, public prosecutors, and court workers have gathered in a demonstration at Greece's Supreme Court to protest new pay cuts expected in a new government austerity package.
Organizers of Wednesday's protest threatened to cut operating hours at the country's backlogged courts if their salaries are slashed as part of the €11.5 billion ($14.4 billion) austerity measures through 2014.
Police, Fire Service and Coast Guard associations are planning a protest in central Athens with officers in uniform on Thursday. They are also against the looming pay cuts.
The Greek government needs to approve the austerity package to continue accessing its international bailout loans.
