President Donald Trump trolled climate change hawks Sunday morning, tweeting a call for "good old fashioned global warming" amid a winter storm that blanketed a large swath of the United States with snowfall.
"Be careful and try staying in your house," President Trump tweeted. "Large parts of the Country are suffering from tremendous amounts of snow and near record setting cold. Amazing how big this system is. Wouldn't be bad to have a little of that good old fashioned Global Warming right now!"
The tweet reads like a tongue-in-cheek post, but climate change activists often mock those who equate periodic weather events to climatology, but the president preemptively mocked back, apparently.
President Trump has been a climate change skeptic, questioning the supposed foolproof science that human influence is drastically altering the world's climate. The president's position has been science may show the climate could be changing, but the impact of humans has yet to be proven.
Climate change hawks suggest, with certainty, humans materially change the earth's climate and propose governmental actions to slow the impact, sometimes at very high economic cost. The cost is most concerning to the president, because of the burden to taxpayers and stifling of economic growth vs. other manufacturing countries who might not be paying their fair share – namely China, according to the president.
President Trump has been tweeting and issuing a video address to the nation from the White House amid the record-long government shutdown.
