WikiLeaks Suspect's Clothing Seized as Precaution

Friday, 04 March 2011 05:44 PM EST

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Marines say they ordered all clothing removed from a jailed Army private suspected of giving classified information to WikiLeaks as a precaution to keep him from harming himself.

1st Lt. Brian Villiard said Friday that Pfc. Bradley Manning was forced to spend Wednesday and Thursday nights without the boxer shorts he is normally permitted to wear in his cell at the Marine Corps brig in Quantico, Va.

Attorney David Coombs says it was degrading for Manning to spend the nights naked and to stand at attention without clothes the following mornings.

Coombs also says the government has denied his request to have Manning's custody status reduced from maximum- to medium-security. He's filing a rebuttal.
