The Marin County, Fla., chapter of the NAACP has pulled its invitation to Rep. Allen West, R-Fla., to give the keynote speech at its annual fundraiser. The group withdrew the invitation over West’s recent comments about members of the Congressional Progressive Caucus being members of the Communist Party, the
TCPalm.com reported.
The group pulled the plug on West just four days before the gathering at a Palm City country club.
"There's a certain statement he made about Communists," Jerry Gore, president of the Martin County chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, told the website in explaining why they canceled.
The Freedom Fund Banquet will now be held in September with a new keynote speaker to be determined, Gore said according to the TCPalm, adding that West's camp "understood" when the group canceled.
