Waterlogged Bald Eagle Rescued in DC

Wildlife biologists rescued a bald eagle in Washington, D.C. and are treating it just in time for the nation's birthday.

The eagle, which officials believe is a male named Justice who has lived at the city's police academy for more than a decade, was found Saturday night following a heavy thunderstorm.

Bald eagles can essentially become waterlogged in heavy rain when water gets trapped under their wings, which prevents them from flying.

According to The Washington Post, Justice was checked out by local officials and seemed to be in good health. The bird will now be sent to a facility in Delaware for a more detailed exam that will include an X-ray.

The nine-pound Justice has a female mate named Liberty, and the pair had an eaglet in March that was named Spirit.
