A T-shirt that seemed to send a message of killing journalists was taken off Walmart's website after the retail giant received a complaint.
According to The Hill, the back of the shirt read, "Rope. Tree. Journalist. Some assembly required."
The Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) wrote a letter to Walmart leaders this week and asked the company to remove the shirt from its digital shelves.
"It is our belief that, at the least, T-shirts or any other items bearing such words simply inflame the passions of those who either don't like, or don't understand, the news media," the letter reads. "At worst, they openly encourage violence targeting journalists. We believe they are particularly inflammatory within the context of today's vitriolic political and ideological environment."
In a story posted to its website, the RTDNA confirmed Walmart removed the shirt.
RTDNA Executive Director Dan Shelley received a response from Walmart on Wednesday that read, in part, "We have forwarded this to the appropriate team to remove it. Walmart.com does appreciate feedback like this so that offensive material does not appear on our website."
