Quinnipiac Poll on Vaccines: 70 Percent Say 'No Shots, No School'

A significant majority of American voters say that vaccinations should be a mandatory condition of attending school or childcare facilities, a new poll has found.

According to a Quinnipiac University poll conducted Feb. 26-March 2 of 1,286 registered voters, 70 percent say that children who have not received standard vaccinations should not be allowed to attend school.

There is virtually no gender gap among those who hold that view, and the opinion stands across party lines and age groups.

"American voters say 3-1, 'no shots, no school,'" said Tim Malloy, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Poll, in a statement.

The results of the poll tied in with a survey released last month by CNN/ORC International which found that nearly eight in 10 Americans believe that parents should be required to vaccinate their children against preventable diseases such as mumps, measles, polio and rubella.

The poll also found that most agree that if the children are not vaccinated, they should be barred from daycare or public school.
