Over 40 Students Suspended in Grade-changing Scheme

Wednesday, 25 March 2015 09:21 AM EDT

A high school in southern Louisiana has suspended at least 45 students as part of an investigation into a student who changed grades through a web-based computer program.

Beau Chene (SHEN) High School principal Keith James tells The Advertiser (http://bit.ly/1xyfhMA) the student gained access to a program called Powerschool by obtaining a teacher's password and was able to change grades for several students.

James says the student would sometime charge money to change other students' grades, but would also change them as favors.

James says the suspensions varied based on students' involvement. He declined to discuss the length of any student's suspension.

About 815 students attend the school, located north of Lafayette.

Last April, Southwood High School in Shreveport suspended 18 seniors involved in a similar grade hacking scheme.
