Transportation Secy LaHood: We'll Mull Boosting Train Security

By    |   Monday, 09 May 2011 03:47 PM EDT

Americans have grown understandably concerned amid reports that Osama bin Laden was planning attacks on U.S. train systems before he was killed. So the Obama administration will consider increasing security on trains if intelligence taken from bin Laden’s compound that mentioned train attacks is substantiated, Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood said Monday, Politico reports.

“We will look at information found inside his house and see if there were any threats they’re thinking about for trains,” LaHood said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”

Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., has called for train officials to implement a “no ride list.”

LaHood said, “We’ll work with Congress on this. I’d say this morning, we need to look at the information carefully and see if there are any threats. For now, riding trains is safe.”
