President Donald Trump said the U.S. is conducting about 100,000 tests a day for conoravirus after weeks of complaints from governors and health-care workers about a scarcity of tests.
Trump told reporters at the White House on Friday the U.S. is testing "more than anybody in the world."
Vice President Mike Pence, the head of the White House coronavirus task force, said more than 685,000 tests have been conducted as of Friday morning, "as a great credit to our commercial partnership with our great laboratories across the country."
The testing sites are also reporting results in real time to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the White House task force.
The U.S. has become the worldwide epicenter of the epidemic, with more than 100,000 people infected as of Friday, surpassing China. Only about 15% percent of the U.S. tests come up positive for COVID-19, stressing the supply of personal protective equipment needed to conduct every test.
