Rep. Steve King: Snowden Did More Damage than Jeffrey Dahmer‏

By    |   Tuesday, 08 April 2014 01:58 PM EDT

Rep. Steve King says NSA whistle-blower Edward Snowden has done more damage to America than the infamous serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, and he can think of no other person in history who has done more damage to the country.

At Breitbart's National Security Action Summit, the Iowa Republican said Snowden's leaks were not altruistic, adding that whatever his reasons were, King believes humans "have an infinite capacity to self-rationalize" and they'll convince themselves that whatever they decide to do is "true, right, and just."

"Snowden has done more damage to America than anybody I can think of in history," King said. "I would take it so far as to say that probably Jeffrey Dahmer analyzed in a similar way. He didn’t do nearly as much damage as Snowden did."

Dahmer raped, murdered, and ate 17 people over more than a decade in the late 1970s and 1980s.

King has not shied away from stirring controversy in the past.

He was a supporter of the Arizona bill, subsequently vetoed by GOP Gov. Jan Brewer, that would have allowed businesses to discriminate against and refuse service to gay people on religious grounds, insisting it was not a violation of civil rights.

"It's clear in the civil rights section of the code that you can't discriminate against people based upon — I'm not sure that I got the list right — race, creed, religion, color of skin, those kind of things, and there's nothing mentioned in there on self-professed behavior. And that's what they're trying to perfect is special rights for self-professed behavior," King said in an interview last month, according to Iowa State Daily.

"The one thing that I reference when I say 'self-professed' is: How do you know who to discriminate against? They about have to tell you. And you know, are they then setting up a case?"

The comments drew the attention of comedian Stephen Colbert who encouraged homosexuals to "go out and prove your gayness to Rep. King using cold, hard evidence. Which is to say, please send him your nudie pixxx and sex tapes."

In July, King also courted controversy after he told Newsmax that granting citizenship to undocumented immigrants who were brought to the United States as children would be a mistake, because, in his eyes, most are engaged in activities other than excelling in school.

"For everyone who's a valedictorian, there's another 100 out there who weigh 130 pounds, and they've got calves the size of cantaloupes because they're hauling 75 pounds of marijuana across the desert," King said.
