Sen. Steve Daines, R-Mont., on Monday was one of few members of Congress to unapologetically defend President Donald Trump's widely condemned Twitter rant against four freshman Democratic House lawmakers.
Daines tweeted:
"Montanans are sick and tired of listening to anti-American, anti-Semite, radical Democrats trash our country and our ideals. This is America. We're the greatest country in the world.
"I stand with Donald Trump."
In an interview on WBAL, Rep. Andy Harris, R-Md., also defended Trump, arguing the president "could've meant go back to the district that they came from or the neighborhood they came from."
Some, though not many, Republicans condemned the tirade. They include Reps. Mike Turner, R-Ohio, Will Hurd, R-Texas, Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., Pete Olsen, R-Texas, Lloyd Smucker, R-Pa., and Fred Upton, R-Mich.
Also, Sens. Pat Toomey, R-Pa., Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, Susan Collins, R-Maine, Tim Scott, R-S.C., Rob Portman, R-Ohio and Mitt Romney, R-Utah have called out Trump's advice to "go back to where you came from."
