Scott Walker Fires Aide Who Demeaned Hispanics in Tweets

By    |   Tuesday, 03 December 2013 09:06 PM EST

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker fired a campaign aide for making foul-mouthed and demeaning remarks about Hispanics on her Twitter account, the Journal Sentinel reported Tuesday.

Walker, a Republican who has advocated for better GOP outreach to minority voters,
axed Taylor Palmisano, 23, as his campaign's deputy finance director Tuesday after being alerted to the offensive tweets, the newspaper said.

In one, Palmisano complained about a person who was doing custodial work in a library in which she was working.

"I will choke that illegal mex cleaning in the library. Stop banging [expletive] chairs around and turn off your Walkman," she tweeted on March 9, 2011.

Two months earlier, she ranted about a bus trip, tweeting: "This bus is my worst [expletive] nightmare Nobody speaks English & these ppl dont know how 2 control their kids #only3morehours #illegalaliens."

Walker is up for re-election in 2014 and has emerged a potential presidential contender in 2016.

"Taylor Palmisano has been immediately removed from her position with the Friends of Scott Walker campaign," said Walker spokesman Jonathan Wetzel. "Both the governor and the campaign condemn these insulting remarks, which do not reflect our views in any way."

Palmisano said she regretted "these offensive and irresponsible remarks," and offered an apology, adding: "I . . . understand the consequences of making such unacceptable statements," the newspaper reported.

She shut down both her Facebook and Twitter accounts, the newspaper reported.

In his recently released book "Unintimidated," Walker credits Palmisano and other members of his current campaign staff with building on the success of his previous election teams, the newspaper said.

In August, Walker fired Steven Krieser, his assistant deputy secretary at the state Department of Transportation, after the newspaper questioned Facebook posts in which the aide likened illegal immigrants to Satan, the Journal Sentinel reported.
