Prosecutor Appointed to Review Handling of Sandusky Case

A former federal prosecutor will lead the investigation into Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett's handling of the Jerry Sandusky child sexual abuse scandal at Penn State, state Attorney General Kathleen Kane said Monday.

H. Geoffrey Moulton Jr., who worked at the U.S. Attorney's office in Philadelphia, has been appointed to review the Republican governor's role in the case from 1995 to 1997 when he was the state's top prosecutor, according to NBC news. Moulton, now an associate professor at Widener University School of Law, was a special investigator in the 1993 raid of the Branch Davidian headquarters in Waco, Texas.

Sandusky, a former Penn State assistant football, was finally brought to trial and convicted last year on multiple counts of child sexual abuse and is now serving 30 to 60 years in prison.

Kane, who was elected in November, has reportedly been critical of Corbett's handling of the case when he was a prosecutor and has said Sandusky should have been brought to trial years earlier.

The governor, however, says he welcomes the investigation and that his office will make all findings available to the public once the “facts have been uncovered.”
