Report: US Isn’t Ready for WMD Attack

Experts have stressed since the killing of Osama bin Laden last month that the threat of terrorism to our homeland hasn’t abated. Indeed, the country is unprepared for an attack involving weapons of mass destruction, according to a report by the Commission on the Prevention of Weapons of Mass Destruction Proliferation and Terrorism, The Hill reports.

The report is “a startling reminder of the danger we face as a nation,” said Rep. Dan Lungren, R-Calif., chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee’s panel on Cybersecurity, Infrastructure Protection and Security Technologies.

He admitted Congress hasn’t met the commission’s recommendations to protect the country against an attack. “We cannot forget Congress’ own shortcomings.” Lungren said. “The WMD commission gave Congress a failing grade for not reforming its congressional oversight to better address our homeland security needs.”
