Sarah Palin has confronted Fox News' Chris Wallace after he said on Sunday that conservatives have sent him unsolicited opposition research on GOP Texas Sen. Ted Cruz.
Palin, who is a commentator on the network, tweeted after Wallace’s appearance, @FoxNewsSunday Keep it TRULY fair & balanced. Release the GOP names encouraging you to trash @SenTedCruz. No more anonymous sources.
Wallace made his remarks after an interview with Cruz aired on "
Fox News Sunday." During the roundtable discussion portion of the show, during a question to Republican strategist Karl Rove about conservative animosity toward Cruz, Wallace revealed that "top Republicans" had sent him the material.
"This has been one of the strangest weeks I’ve ever had in Washington, and I say that because as soon as we listed Ted Cruz as our featured guest this week, I got unsolicited research and questions not from Democrats, but from top Republicans to hammer Cruz," Wallace said.
Palin is a big supporter of Cruz. The 2008 GOP vice presidential candidate wrote
a column for Breitbart over the weekend in which she praised Cruz’ efforts to defund Obamacare and attacked the Republicans who were undermining him to the press.
"Following the will of the people is apparently a novel idea in D.C. these days. Just ask Senator Ted Cruz and his liberty-loving posse on Capitol Hill who have led the charge to defund Obama’s train wreck," Palin wrote.
"Those of us who hang in there supporting a major political party with our energy, time, and contributions would like to believe that that party would praise principled conservatives like Ted Cruz and Mike Lee for following through on campaign promises," she said, adding, "But no. Such praise would require a commensurate level of guts and leadership, and the permanent political class in D.C. is nothing if not gutless and rudderless."
Cruz’s senior communications adviser called the research to which Wallace referred "despicable."
