Palin Opens 'Today' Show Poking Fun at Herself

Tuesday, 03 April 2012 08:35 AM EDT

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin opened the 'Today' Show this morning showing she's a good sport, and poking a little fun at herself with bits reminiscent of her flubs during the 2008 presidential campaign.

Palin began with her head buried in a newspaper, while host Matt Lauer quipped “Oh, man, she’s doing her homework!”

The reference was a pot shot at Palin's 2008 interview with Katie Couric — who this morning was making a guest-host appearance on "Good Morning America" — where the former Alaska governor was unable to name any newspapers that she regularly read.

Palin is guest hosting Today all week.

After  the commercial, the cameras caught Palin getting ready backstage — and writing notes on her hand with a black pen. This, too, was a reference to Palin's 2008 run when she was caught checking her handwritten notes on her palm.

“She’s taking notes, getting ready for some upcoming segments here,” Lauer said. “How’s it going so far, governor?”
