NEW YORK — The generation that gave the term "slacker" new meaning is looking with measures of rivalry, regret, and tart bewilderment at a movement its successor mobilized in the name of "the 99 percent."
Generation X is the cohort sandwiched between the baby boomers and the so-called millennial age group of many Occupy Wall Street protesters.
To some members of Generation X, the demonstrations represent a missed opportunity to take up the cause of combatting economic inequality in their own youth.
But for others, the Occupy movement is a rehash of recessionist angst they weathered in the 1980s and '90s.
Some Gen Xers also involved in the protests. One says he feels younger people catalyzed the demonstrations, but his age group paved the way.
