Wash. Times' Gertz: Congress Must Protect Citizens From ACA Site

Congress must quickly stem the risk Americans take when they bare their personal information on the Affordable Care Act website, says Bill Gertz, national security columnist for The Washington Times.

Gertz reported this week that U.S. intelligence is urging the Obama administration to check its new healthcare computer network for malicious software.

The warning came after it was learned that developers linked to the Belarusian government helped produce the website, raising concerns that data posted by millions of Americans could be compromised.

"The ball is in Congress' court right now. Congress has to step up and mandate these things, require these security changes," Gertz told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"The way that this Obamacare network is structured . . . if you break through one firewall . . . you can get into other sensitive networks, including the IRS or the Department of Homeland Security.

"So, they've clearly got to step up and say, look, we need this site to be secure. We can't have questions about this. It has to do with integrity of the system, and they definitely need to do a thorough search and really figure out what the threat is."
