School districts across the country have had all summer to come up with plans to safely reopen schools, and there will be a "huge impact" on children and their parents alike if that doesn't happen, but Democrats want to keep everything closed, Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel said Wednesday.

"I think the president has been very clear that he is going to put the health and safety of kids first and foremost, but recognizing that we can balance that with starting school," McDaniel said on Fox News' "Outnumbered Overtime." "There is a huge impact on school not starting, not just on the mental health of kids ... also on the family."

The government is willing to work with school districts, but Democrats "consistently" want to "pause everything," said McDaniel.

President Donald Trump is pushing for schools to reopen, she continued, but presumptive Democratic Party presidential nominee Joe Biden is backing the wishes of teachers' unions.

"I will side with the students every time, and that is where the Republican Party is,"  McDaniel said.

Virtual classes are not working, she continued, as kids need to be back in school, which will allow their families to go back to work.

"We have to start reliving our lives again, and the president is saying we should do that [by balancing] health and safety," said McDaniel. "Democrats are saying, 'no, we need to shut down forever.' That's just not tenable."

She added that Trump will welcome bipartisan support on reopening schools if it is there.

McDaniel also panned Biden's comments that he'd rejoin the World Health Organization if he's elected after Trump made the first moves Tuesday to withdraw from it.

"Lives have been lost because of their ineptitude," she said of the WHO. "The president is doing the right thing. What do you do when someone doesn't do their job? You fire them."
