John Lott: Gov't Gun Policies are Harming Kids

By    |   Thursday, 21 February 2013 06:40 PM EST

Children are being damaged by the government’s push towards a zero tolerance of guns, according to American economist and firearms advocate John Lott.

“All of the zero tolerance has traumatized young kids,’’ John Lott tells Steve Malzberg on Newsmax TV’s “The Steve Malzberg Show.’’

Lott said a recent incident in Dallas where an English teacher allegedly marked two student papers with zeros because they talked about guns is “particularly troubling …

“If somebody doing perfectly lawful activity … to punish them for that, it seems like it’s hard to think of any other reason other than just a purely ideological jump.’’

Lott believes the gun issue is one part of a number of failed policies under the president.

“I guess a lot of people just don’t blame him for his policies. I don’t know who else they’re supposed to blame,’’ Lott said.

“His primary goal is redistribution. But it’s not even distribution to the poorest. You look at the stimulus that’s there.

“The money didn’t go to the states with the highest unemployment … with the lowest incomes or highest poverty rates or highest foreclosure rates or higher bankruptcy rates … Instead, the money went to states that were the most heavily Democratic.
