House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., is unswayed on whether President Donald Trump committed an impeachable offense, even with testimony presented Wednesday by acting ambassador William B. Taylor that his aide overheard Trump ask Amb. Gordon Sondland about investigations into the Bidens on July 26.

"You have a phone call where the president asks about an investigation," McCarthy said during the hearing. "An investigation that's already going forward that most of America wants to know what transpired . . . none of that is impeachable. So the answer is no."

Sondland, the U.S. Ambassador to the European Union, is scheduled to appear before the House Intelligence Committee next week.

Taylor on Wednesday testified Sondland told Trump in that conversation "the Ukrainians were ready to move forward" on the investigations, referring to the president's desire for a probe of Biden, the Democratic presidential frontrunner, and the Ukrainian energy company on whose board Hunter Biden once served.

McCarthy later tweeted the call summary "shows no pressure or conditionality." He also said the "Ukrainians didn't know security assistance was under review for over a month after the call" and "Full assistance was provided. No investigation was opened."
