Kellyanne Conway Pans John Dean: Dems Picking 'Lawyers From TV'

(Fox News' "Fox & Friends")

By    |   Monday, 10 June 2019 01:56 PM EDT

Presidential counselor Kellyanne Conway Monday panned Nixon-era White House counsel John Dean in the hours before his testimony before the House Judiciary Committee, saying the lawmakers were picking "lawyers from TV" to build their case for impeachment.

"It's really something," Conway told Fox News' "Fox & Friends." "I've never been disbarred. I passed four state bars, never been disbarred. Never went to jail for obstruction of justice and don't plan on it, but they are picking lawyers from TV now."

Dean resigned from the Nixon administration in April 1973 and testified in June of that year to the Senate select committee about the White House and Nixon's involvement in the Watergate break-in and the subsequent cover-up. He was sent to prison for his involvement in the scandal.

Dean told CNN on Monday, where he is a network contributor, he will testify to the committee how Watergate and current events, as reported in special counsel Robert Mueller's report, are "strikingly" similar.

"Remember, he also tried to derail Brett Kavanaugh's nomination," Conway said. "He's not a credible person."

Conway also criticized the House Democrats for holding the hearing with Dean while blocking her attempts to brief Congress about drug crisis legislation passed last year.

"This week, my office is trying to get me up on Capitol Hill for an annual briefing of the senators and the House members," Conway complained. "We can't get a room in the House."

"They are using it for John Dean's makeup room," Fox News host Brian Kilmeade joked.
