Ex-NSA Chief to Give First Interview — To British Comedian

By    |   Thursday, 24 April 2014 10:37 PM EDT

The former head of the National Security Agency is slated to give his first interview since stepping down from his post, and it will be on an HBO comedy show.

Gen. Keith Alexander, who left his job March 28, will be the first guest on comedian John Oliver's new show "Last Week Tonight," according to The Hill. The show debuts Sunday evening.

Alexander resigned from his job in the wake of the Edward Snowden affair, which saw the former NSA contractor release classified documents related to, among other things, the agency's domestic spying practices. Alexander spent about eight and a half years leading the agency, which is based in Fort Meade, Md.

Alexander has been very critical of Snowden, who is currently living in Russia under temporary asylum. In a Fox News interview that aired before he stepped down from his position, Alexander said he was "hugely disappointed" in Snowden's actions.

"I think this will haunt him for the rest of his life," Alexander said. "Here's a young guy who made some huge mistakes."

Vice Admiral Michael Rogers has been nominated to take Alexander's job as NSA director and also to be head of the U.S. Cyber Command. He is awaiting Senate confirmation for the latter, but does not need to be confirmed for the NSA post.

A British comedian, Oliver has appeared on the Daily Show With Jon Stewart and several other programs. His new show, according to its website, will be "a half-hour satirical look at the week in news, politics and current events."
