NBC/WSJ Poll: Americans Split Evenly on Trump Impeachment

Americans are split on the issue of impeaching President Donald Trump and removing him from office, according to a new survey.

Key results in the NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll, released Wednesday:

• 48% of U.S. adults support impeachment and removal from office, while 48% oppose it. A previous NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll in October found that 49% were for impeachment and removal and 46% were against it.
• 83% of Democrats and 50% of independents support impeachment and removal.
• 90% of Republicans are against impeachment and removal.
• 53% approve of the impeachment inquiry, which House Democrats kicked off in September.
• 25% said Trump has not done anything wrong, despite Democrats' claims that he used his office for political gain by trying to use U.S. military aid to persuade Ukraine to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden, one of Trump's 2020 opponents.

The House spent most of Wednesday debating the issue of impeachment. The chamber was expected to vote on two articles of impeachment later Wednesday.

The NBC/Wall Street Journal poll was conducted Dec. 14-17 among 900 U.S. adults. The margin of error is plus or minus 3.3 percentage points.
