Group Says it Hacked Texas Law Enforcement Emails

Friday, 02 September 2011 06:59 AM EDT

HOUSTON — The group known as Anonymous claims to have hacked into the email accounts of more than two dozen Texas law enforcement agencies or officials.

The group says the hacking is retaliation for arrests of its supporters and what it sees as harassment of immigrants by authorities in Texas.

The group appeared to briefly take over the website of the Texas Police Chiefs Association on Thursday, replacing its home page with one that listed police departments and officials whose email accounts Anonymous claimed to have hacked.

A telephone message left with the executive director of the police chiefs group was not returned.

Dozens of arrests linked to the loose-knit international hacking collective have been made in recent weeks, including a cross-country FBI sting in which 14 alleged cybercriminals were arrested.
