Americans are reportedly loading up on guns before Nov. 8 – with one gunmaker fueling the trend with a pre-Election Day sale of magazines and a sports chain offering discounted semi-automatic weapons.
Gun fever is raging especially in the South, The Washington Examiner reported, citing a private survey by the supply chain firm Elementum.
"The top item Americans say they are likely to buy because of the election is a gun," Elementum finds, according to the Examiner.
But the survey also showed 97 percent of Americans are putting on hold any major purchases because of the presidential election, the Examiner reported.
According to the Examiner, topping the list of items being considered by all age groups ahead of the election is firearms, with 16 percent planning "to buy a firearm as a result of the upcoming election."
"Among Americans living in the South, the figure is nearly one in five [19 percent] and among Gen Xers [35-44 year olds] the number is nearly 1 in 4 [23 percent] especially among women [24 percent]," according to the Elementum survey, per the Examiner.
Meanwhile, the Examiner reported Baretta on Tuesday unveiled a pre-Nov. 8 sale of 20 percent on magazines. And the sports chain Gander Mountain is running a sale on semi-automatic weapons – including AR-15 rifles – before the election.
The Examiner reported Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton has supported limits on cartridge magazines as part of her gun-control policy.
