2 GOP Congressmen Seek to Delay 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' Repeal

The Defense Department is scheduled to end the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy for gays and lesbians in the military Tuesday. But two influential Republicans in the House are urging a delay, The Hill reports.

House Armed Services Committee Chairman Buck McKeon and Rep. Joe Wilson, who chairs the Military Personnel subcommittee, say the action should be delayed because their committee hasn’t received copies of all regulation and policy changes involved.

The Pentagon shouldn’t hurry to carry through a policy that’s not ready for use yet, they say.
"The department is not ready to implement the repeal because all the policies and regulations necessary for the transition are not yet final," the congressmen wrote in a letter.

They are especially concerned about how benefits will be offered to partners of gay military personnel.
