'Miracle on the Hudson' Plane Preps for Final Trip

Friday, 20 May 2011 04:18 PM EDT

HARRISON, N.J. (AP) — The plane that splash-landed in the Hudson River in 2009, making a national hero of pilot Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger, is getting a final once-over before it makes its last journey.

The US Airways jet has spent more than two years in the J. Supor (SOO'-por) and Sons warehouse in Harrison, just outside Newark.

This week it was moved outside to prepare for transfer to an aviation museum in North Carolina, where it will be put on permanent display.

Museum president Shawn Dorsch tells The Associated Press the wings of the plane, which are detached, will be moved first, followed by the fuselage sometime in the next two weeks. He says it will take about five days to drive the fuselage from New Jersey to North Carolina on a large flatbed truck.
