FBI Expunges Counter-Terrorism Documents

By    |   Tuesday, 21 February 2012 02:50 PM EST

The FBI has expunged hundreds of counterterrorism training documents after finding their description of Muslims not only inaccurate, but problematic, reports Fox News.

The month-long review was spurred by a September blog in Wired magazine that unearthed training documents that allegedly called the Prophet Muhammad a “cult leader.” The documents also stated that “devout” Muslims had a history of violence.

The pages in question fell into at least one of four categories: “poor taste,” using “stereotypes,” issues with “precision," and “factual errors.”

Although unclear as to which documents were removed, a law enforcement source confirmed to Fox News on Tuesday that there were hundreds that were “not consistent with the highest professional standards of the FBI’s core values.”

FBI spokesman Christopher Allen said that despite the many documents that were purged, they still amounted to less than 1 percent of the 160,000 training material pages.

“As a result of that review, we found that the overwhelming majority of our counterterrorism training materials met the FBI’s standards,” Allen said.
