A homeless Miami man whose face was mostly chewed off in a bizarre assault has told police the attacker "just ripped me to ribbons."
In a recorded interview, Ronald Poppo told investigators the man who approached him initially seemed friendly. But Poppo said Rudy Eugene then "turned berserk" and attacked, chewing on Poppo's face and plucking at his eyes.
The July 19 interview was obtained by Miami news station WFOR-TV (http://cbsloc.al/OQgwOt ).
Poppo remains hospitalized. He lost an eye, his eyebrows, his nose and parts of his forehead and cheek in the attack.
Eugene was shot and killed by a Miami police officer during the May 26 attack. Lab tests found only marijuana in Eugene's system, but no other drugs or alcohol.
