DC Rep: Obamacare Woes Stem From Perception Law Was Repealed

The reason so many people shied from signing up from Obamacare is that they thought the law had been repealed, Rep. Eleanor Holmes Norton said Monday.

"What we have been battling now is, first, every time the House couldn't think of anything else to do, it had a big debate on repealing Obamacare. So, there are millions of people out there who think it was repealed," the Washington, D.C., Democrat told MSNBC's "Jansing & Co."

Holmes suggested the problems with the Obamacare website also contributed to the confusion, and "seemed to confirm that it must have been repealed, or it should have been repealed."

With numbers of enrollees in Obamacare increasing, Democrats are now "able to get out what is really happening," Holmes said. She said many had waited until the last minute to sign up because it was human nature.

"We all do the same thing. Last minute. And, when that fine is going to kick in, you're going to see people trotting to sign on like you've never seen it before," she said.

According to officials, more than a million people have signed up for Obamacare. The White House predicted 7 million would sign up for healthcare insurance by the March 31 deadline.
