D'Souza: Happy to See Obama Challenged on Free Speech

Filmmaker Dinesh D'Souza says he is happy to see New York Times reporter James Risen challenge President Barack Obama on free speech.

"One of the things that's encouraged this administration to be so heavy-handed is because they get away with it," D'Souza said Tuesday on Fox News Channel's "Hannity."

Risen is fighting attempts to have him testify in the trial of former CIA officer Jeffrey Sterling, who is accused of leaking information to Risen. At a conference on Friday, Risen called the Obama administration "the greatest enemy of press freedom that we have encountered in at least a generation."

D'Souza has been a vocal critic of Obama, and produced a film about him during the 2012 presidential campaign titled "2016: Obama's America."

D'Souza was indicted in January for allegedly arranging excessive political contributions for a U.S. Senate candidate, and faces up to seven years in prison on each of two felony counts. Supporters have accused the administration of targeting him.

Other journalists who have accused the White House of targeting them include Fox News' James Rosen, who was never charged but was listed as a possible co-conspirator for getting information from a government source.
