Dr. David Samadi to Newsmax TV: Riots Remind Him of 1979 Iran

Dr. David Samadi, the Director of Men's Health at St. Francis Hospital, tells Newsmax TV the riots breaking out in his home city of New York and around the country remind him of the Iran of his youth when the Shah was overthrown in 1979.

"This is a very difficult time even for me and a lot of people who came from Iran," Samadi said Tuesday on "Greg Kelly Reports."

It was difficult for him to go into work Tuesday seeing the broken glass and destroyed stores around the city, he added.

"This is not about George Floyd, and this needs to be stopped. And the mayor needs to act quickly."

Floyd, a 46-year-old black man, died May 25 after white Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin kneeled on his neck for more than eight minutes as he pleaded for air. Chauvin has been charged with third-degree murder and manslaughter.

Floyd's family has called for an end to the violence and begged protesters to remain peaceful.

Samadi said if mayors and governors cannot end the violence, President Donald Trump "has a very strong pen, and he has a very strong hammer, and if he has to act he will. … We need to bring law and order as quickly as possible."
