Coulter: Amnesty ‘Suicidal Policy’ for GOP

By    |   Saturday, 16 March 2013 09:02 PM EDT

Conservative columnist Ann Coulter called granting U.S. citizenship to illegal immigrants a “suicidal policy” for Republicans.

“If amnesty goes through, America becomes California and no Republican will ever win another national election,” she said in her remarks to the 2013 Conservative Political Action Conference on Saturday.

In one of her few serious topics, she told the audience to stop panicking over the 2012 election loss, that President Barack Obama attracted fewer voters during his second election than any incumbent in the last 100 years.

She added that Republicans shouldn’t rush to adopt policies such as accepting immediate tax hikes in return for future spending cuts during the ongoing budgeting battles in Washington.

Coulter also cautioned the Republican Party against running Senate candidates such as former U.S. Missouri Rep. Todd Akin, whose loss was widely attributed to his claiming that victims of legitimate rape don’t get pregnant.

“Passion is great,” she said. “But remember in politics, scoring is all that counts.”

The nine-time New York Times bestselling author otherwise joked at the expense of Democrats and Republicans alike in her remarks. She has become a perennial CPAC favorite for her equal-opportunity swipes at members of the nation’s political class.

“The sequester’s ruined everything this year,” Coulter said of the $85 billion in across-the-board government spending cuts in March.

“Even CPAC had to cut back on its speakers this year by about 300 lbs.,” she said in reference to New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who CPAC declined to invite this year.

She described the late Massachusetts Sen. Ted Kennedy as the only Democrat who has “the only confirmed kill in the war on women.”

She took a swipe at Sandra Fluke, a Democratic activist known for her advocacy of free government contraception, saying “I think that haircut is birth control enough.”

She took aim at former Democratic presidential candidate and Ohio Rep. Dennis Kucinich, who she said could only find a job at Fox News Channel “after Keebler let him out of his contract.”

She said that Democrats decry reforming Medicare with polls showing that Americans overwhelmingly support the program, but with respondents who are already eligible for benefits, “It’s like asking six-year-olds, ‘Are birthdays a good idea?’”
