Sen. Chuck Schumer on Tuesday said President Donald Trump "got it all wrong" when he accused him of shedding fake tears at a press conference on immigration earlier this month, the Washington Free Beacon reports.
Schumer, the Senate minority leader, made the comments during an appearance on ABC's "The View" when co-host Whoopi Goldberg brought up the topic.
"He doesn't know me," he said. "He says he knows me — I get tearful."
Trump mocked Schumer for becoming emotional while condemning Trump's temporary travel ban placed on citizens from seven countries, all of which are overwhelmingly Muslim, an order that has since been overturned by the courts.
"I noticed Chuck Schumer yesterday with fake tears," Trump said before a meeting with small-business leaders. "I'm going to ask him who is his acting coach."
Trump went on, "'Cause I know him. I don't see him as a crier."
Schumer said he has always been an emotional person.
"My daughter's wedding, I could hardly contain it in," he said. "When Harry Reid stepped down. And here is what my family knows — Who remembers the movie, 'Free Willy?' When Free Willy escaped, I was taking my daughters to the movie, 8 and 4, and when he escaped I started to cry and they ran out of the theater, they were so embarrassed. Trump's got it all wrong."
