With President Barack Obama, it's politics first, and then what's best for the nation, according to Josh Kraushaar, political editor and "Against the Grain" columnist for The National Journal.

"The first thing the administration worries about is how it's going to play in the polls, how it's going to play in the short-term impact in the president's approval ratings," Kraushaar said Thursday on "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

He added the commander-in-chief likes to pass the buck when it comes to blame, a prime example being his insistence he knew nothing about the growing threat of Islamic State (ISIS).

"The notion he was out of the loop that he had no idea that this could happen is just totally contradicted by real-life intel, so it's clearly caught up to him," Kraushaar said.

"There's a pattern with this president that when it comes to … foreign policy, domestic policy the president's strategy is to deny, blame and then hope that the scandal dies down."
