Federal prosecutors want a judge to turn down ousted Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich's request to delay his corruption trial because public interest in the case warrants a speedy resolution.
Blagojevich's attorneys have asked that the trial be postponed until November. It's scheduled to begin June 3.
Prosecutors told Zagel in a brief filed Monday that Blagojevich "has repeatedly and publicly challenged the legitimacy of the charges against him." They say the result is a strong public interest in a quick end to the case.
Defense attorneys say they must review an overwhelming number of documents. They also say the U.S. Supreme Court might find some of the charges in the indictment unconstitutional. The high court is considering related cases now.
