Army Basic Training Commander Accused of Adultery

By    |   Wednesday, 22 May 2013 02:11 PM EDT

The commanding officer of the Army's largest basic training base, a married father of three, has been suspended after being accused of adultery, The State newspaper reports.

Bryan Roberts, a one-star brigadier general at Fort Jackson in South Carolina, was also involved in a physical altercation, according to Harvey Perritt, a spokesman for the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command.

Perritt confirmed the suspension on those charges in a statement to the newspaper, but did not provide further details.

Fort Jackson trains 70 percent of the Army's female soldiers and graduates more than 50,000 new soldiers each year.

While the charges against Roberts are being investigated, Brig. Gen. Peggy C. Combs will take over as Fort Jackson’s interim commander. Combs is currently the commandant of the U.S. Army Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear School at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri, the newspaper reported.
