Apple is donating more than 20 million masks to the coronavirus effort and is also making face shields for healthcare workers.
"Teams across Apple have been working hard on ways we can support our heroic frontline medical professionals," Cook said in a Twitter video before revealing that the company has sourced more than 20 million masks and has also joined a list of several companies that are now making personal protective equipment (PPE) for medical professionals and first responders as the coronavirus continues to spread across the United States.
"This is a truly global effort and we're working continuously and closely with governments at all levels to ensure these are donated to places of greatest need," Cook said.
Regarding the production of the face shields, of which it will ship 1 million per week, Apple is using teams company-wide to design and construct them.
"Our first shipment was delivered to Kaiser hospital facilities in the Santa Clara Valley this past week, and the feedback from doctors was very positive," Cook said.
Apple is worth more than $1 trillion and, according to CNBC, its stock was trading at around $250 per share Monday morning.
"For Apple, this is a labor of love and gratitude," Cook said, "and we will share more of our efforts over time."
