Ted Cruz Compares Himself to Uber as Change Agent

By    |   Tuesday, 16 December 2014 07:49 PM EST

Sen. Ted Cruz knows his actions anger Democrats and even some of his fellow Republicans, but he compares himself to a new app that upsets the status quo.

"Washington doesn't like change," Cruz, of Texas, said Tuesday on Fox News Channel's "Special Report."

The problem, he said, isn't the divide between Republicans and Democrats, but the divide between career politicians and the American public.

Conservative pundits George Will and Charles Krauthammer have criticized Cruz for not being a team player — especially after he went against GOP leadership late last week in demanding a vote on President Barack Obama’s executive orders on illegal immigrants.

Cruz said he agrees with them to a point, but isn't interested in playing by the current rules of Washington.

He said he's a lot like a new computer application that completely changes how things are done. He said that when ride-share programs such as Uber or Lyft enter a city, existing taxi services get upset and try to get rid of them.

That's exactly how career politicians are treating him, he said.
